About Those Implications

Following up on the preceding post, what are the implications you see from the two images posted--vitality, progress, excitement, youthful coming of age? Or, do you see disturbing implications concerning the nature of man and value?

The Jose Cuervo tequila ad appeared in the March 8, 2007 edition of Rolling Stone magazine and the April 2007 edition of Spin. The ad shows a carefree and jubilant guy with his arms wrapped around two attractive, young, vibrant, and equally jubilant young girls, with the tag line "Mojo now comes flavored." Life is good and getting better every day in every way. In today's progressive culture, by the way, "Mojo" is slang for an object believed to have magical powers and/or a reference to male virility.

The Calvin Klein "CKin2U" fragrance ad appeared on the back cover of the June 2007 issue of Blender, the April 2007 issues of Blender and Teen Vogue, and the May 2007 issues of Blender, Cosmopolitan, and Teen Vogue. The ad shows a guy and girl alone together in what appears to be an alley. The guy is leaning in and holding several strands of the girl's hair as the girl holds one end of the guy's loosened belt. The product's name is the tag line. There is an accompanying website, whatareyouin2.com, listed at the top left.

Richard M. Weaver says, "it is only those who are capable of discrimination and of feelings against things who can be the custodians of culture."
