How to View the Founders' Principles
I recently ran across a provocative essay by Thomas G. West, a professor of politics at the University of Dallas, and director and senior fellow at The Claremont Institute. The essay is titled "Jaffa Versus Mansfield" and seeks to distinguish and analyze the respective viewpoints of two of the leading scholars today on the original principles of the American Constitution: Harry Jaffa and Harvey Mansfield. This helpful essay well highlights two viewpoints prevalent today in American political theory and should be carefully read by anyone interested in constitutionalism and the American founding.
